How to check that the file was properly downloaded

To make sure the installer disk image was properly downloaded, you can compare the MD5 checksum of your copy against a known good checksum.

To do so launch Terminal (Applications → Utilities → Terminal) and run the following command:

md5 /Path_to_the_downloaded_file/tuxerantfs_2023.1.dmg

Hint: You can just type md5 into the Terminal-window, and then drag and drop the downloaded file into the Terminal-window to fill in the rest!

The output of the command should be as follows:

MD5 (Downloads/tuxerantfs_2023.1.dmg) = a13f179e0f500c76b475f737f9b0de25

What to do when the checksum does not match

If the checksum of the downloaded file does not match, you should download the file again. Corruption during download can have many different causes, but most commonly results from a poor or intermittent internet connection. If you are using a proxy, or an anonymity service such as a VPN, try switching servers or disabling the service for the duration of the download.

If you're using a public Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot, check your signal strength before attempting to download again.
