Making sure you have your product key handy
Before proceeding to troubleshoot possible activation issues, first make sure you have a valid product key. For this, see Where can I find my product key? and Product Key Recovery
Activation problems during the installation
I can't click on Continue during installation after entering my product key
If the 'Continue'-button remains grayed out after entering the product key into the designated field, it’s most likely that the product key is not being entered correctly. Please make sure you are typing all the characters in uppercase and including the dashes. It is common for certain characters such as the letter 'O' and the number '0' (zero), for example, to get mixed up.
The best way to make sure the key is being entered accurately, is to copy & paste it directly from the email we've sent you into the designated field.
I get an error message after clicking on Continue during the installation
If you get an error message when trying to activate NTFS for Mac, you may have an outdated release that does not support the version of macOS you are running. Please download the latest installer from here.
If using the latest installer does not help, you may have previous settings data that cannot be modified. Please see here for instructions on how to remove your old settings file.
Activation problems after system updates
I get an error message about an invalid product key after using Migration Assistant of restoring my data from a Time Machine backup
Activations are always specific to each Mac, so if you've transferred your copy of NTFS to Mac after getting a new system, or if you've restored your data using a Time Machine backup, you will need to activate the software again. You can do this in System Settings:
If the 'Activate'-button remains grayed out after entering the product key, the most likely cause is that the key wasn't entered correctly. Please make sure you are typing all the characters in uppercase and including the dashes. Also take care not to confuse similar looking characters (it is common for characters such as the letter 'O' and the number zero '0' to be confused).
The best way to make sure the key is being entered accurately, is to copy & paste it directly from the email message you were sent after purchase.
I get an error message about an invalid product key after updating macOS or NTFS for Mac.
If a previously activated copy of NTFS for Mac starts to display an error claiming that the product key is invalid, this is most likely due to the fact that NTFS for Mac needs to be updated. Please download and install the latest version, and re-enter your product key during installation.
I still can't activate my copy, what do I do?
If you’re still unable to activate the software after following the steps outlined above, send our support team an email at macsupport@tuxera.com. Be sure to include your order number or the product key that you are using to help save time.
